The Gift That
Keeps On Giving

The Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation (OLG) is a provincial agency operating and managing province-wide lotteries, casinos and slots facilities at horse racing tracks. Over the years, we’ve worked on many ongoing projects with them, adhering to their design guidelines and brand standards. In the fall of 2008, we partnered with them to promote the new 2008 holiday ticket line up for Instant lottery retailers throughout Ontario.

This year, OLG decided to do something new for their Instant Ticket Holiday Gift Packs, which are available for a limited time during the holiday season offered in retail stores throughout Ontario. Instant Ticket gift giving will without a doubt appeal to shoppers this holiday season, with its convenient ‘stocking stuffer’ idea. In lieu of the fact that this new product would be used in the holiday season, it would also be important that it had a strong emotional appeal, and would “feel good” when received as a gift.


We decided that the best way to present this new item would be to play with the idea of ‘giving’. The hook would be that the gift giver would assemble a custom set of lottery tickets from the Instant holiday  line-up for the recipient. The principle idea was therefore ‘Create your own gift pack’, expressed through the tag line “You Pick ‘em, They’ll Love ‘em”. This allows buyers to personalize each package as a gift with tickets specifically selected. Buyers can pick holiday Instant tickets for their friends and family and ‘gifting envelopes’ donning a bright gift tag saying simply “Made For: and Made By:” which would also help reinforce the personalized holiday message.


We created multi-piece point-of-sale displays that will decorate lottery retail stores all over Ontario in the 2008 holiday season. Lottery terminals will display spinning 3D gift boxes overflowing with the holiday Instant ticket  line-up along with the “You Pick ‘em, They’ll Love ‘em” call to action. Strict adherences to all of OLG’s brand standards are displayed throughout our work on this project. We’re proud to cite this project as a great example of how well we can integrate with even the largest organizations to deliver effective, creative work.
